Dear Akira,
What a nice new home page!!
I like the Bon Bai ( in the Netherlands bonsai) too! How old are the ones of your grandfather, you showed? "GYO-ZUI" What a lovely scene!! Warm memories !!
I found a Sumi-e book translated into Dutch written by Hakuho Hirayama.....Do you know that name??
I attached some of the paintings of the Lady I told you before. I am very curious what you think about her work!
I even visit a exhibition of Japanese calligraphy and found also calligraphy of Roman characters painted in Japanese style.
At the moment there are a lot of Japanese exhibitions in the Netherlands in the framework of the 400 years of cooperations between Japan and the Netherlands.
In the meantime I do my meditations and exercises.....
The loverly paintings of Tomoko are also inspiring please, give my regards to her!
All the best and kind regards,
E-ly

.63.. "Bamboo" E-ly Apr.06.'00
Dear Akira,
Thank you for your reply! I already found the midwest society, but the others were new to me!
Not only I love the paintings, but also the philosophy of the sumi-e art.
I learned a lot about the history of the Japanese paintings. Thank you for the suggestion to translate a english book into my language, of course that was a very good idea. I already started to describe my enterprice on the internet to find information. And I will order some english books! I will use some parts of it too. You were very helpful. Thank you very much!
I will kept you informed about my enterprices. And thank for your help.!! Leave me with one question..............difficult to ask..........do you allow me to use some of the Daruma -paintings for my book as well as some of the Hotei paintings? (I also looked up the history of Dharma and love the funny red balls) Of course I have used a lot of paper and exercises before I made my first bamboo...........
Kind regards,
E-ly

Dear E-ly
Recieved your mail and "Bamboo". And I have gotton your strong interest upon sumi-e.
and also read the story of Marion de Jong with a big interest. Is there some possibility for you to meet her and learn sumi-e from her ? If there is, you are very lucky. you can get big progress by learning directly from her.
By the way, your "Bamboo" is very good in composition. and the trunks are well drawn. I think if you drow leaves in a little bit stronger touch, your "Bamboo" will become more alive one.
And if it's useful for you to use my paintings, dont hesitate to use them. But please add my name as the artist some where in your articles and show me your book someday.
Looking forward to see your next painting. With best regards
Akira Kajiura

.60.. Sumie-text book E-ly Feb.6.'00
Dear Akira,
Thank you for the quick reply! Someday I will make a sumi-e painting and of course I will show you my efforts, but nowadays I just start to learn how to make this beautiful art. I love it!! I just started with the bamboos.
In the Netherlands it is hard to get information. Internet offers information as you will understand, but in the bookstoresnot a single book is available in my own language.
Because of my enterprice in this matter I decided to make a book in my own language first, what about this Idea?
I will highly appreciate you to allow me to make use of some of your paintings and of course I will refer to you homepage!
May be you can provide me with a name or authority next to you in this art in Japan also?
Thank you in advance
Kind regards,
E-ly

Dear E-ly
Very sorry to have taken a long hours to reply your last mail.
Oh you are from Netherlands !
If you can get an English edition I guss you can translate that into your language and it will be very helpful for your Sumi-e practice.
So. I have looked for an English editiion of Sumi-E text book, and asked some friends who are used to make Sumi-e paintings, but unfortunately I can not find any book here in Japan.
But I found some good web sites. May be they will help you well. Please visit them. They are followings
http://www.seafolk.ne.jp/~katsura/kissako.html "Japanese Paintings" by Tokie Katsura
http://home.earthlink.net/~drasan/sumia.html "Sumi-e Society Midwest"
http://www.threegraces.com/GalleryJuana/ "Gallery Juana" by Juana Almaguer
And also You can find some Sumi-e books in English at AMAZON.com
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/subst/home/home.html/
If there is no informations please use "suiboku-ga" or "suiboku" or "Japanese ink paintings" for the key words.
Your idear is very curios, but I have some questions.
Would you kindly teach me your career in paintings such as Oil paintings, Water paintings... ?
If you have some experience I think you 'll be a good auther.
Sumi-e requests us to master very difficult techniques of using brushes, inks, and papers.
And not only the skill but also the spiritual trainings.
That means Sumi-e has the great value for us to practice. Don't you think so?
Best Regards
Akira Kajiura (HYO-SAN)
